Fear has gripped Kamasengre village in Homa Bay following the discovery of the body of a woman at Kiare Hill.

The body of the woman was found in a sorry state. The body was naked, played upside down. Her face was deformed and it was believed she was burnt with an acid which permeated in various parts of the body. Her left leg was also chopped off.

According to Sheila Odhiambo, a human rights defender, a witness, the body had glaring signs that the woman was murdered.

“We found her body placed in a thicket upside down. It seemed she was not murdered long ago. The body looked fresh but the only problem was that she was burnt with acid,” Odhiambo said.

The discovery of the body came barely one month after the body of another unknown woman was found in the same location. The woman’s body was also burnt with an acid.

“This is the same location where another woman was murdered and her body was burnt with acid. Today we are witnessing a similar incident at the same scene,” Odhiambo said.

She called on security agencies in the area to intervene and unravel the truth in the matter.

“This place is now raising suspicion on the murder of women. We call upon security agencies and human rights defenders to intervene and help us know who murdered the women and their motives,” Odhiambo added.

Mbita Deputy County Commissioner Peter Mutiso confirmed the incident.

Mutiso said they had engaged the Directorate of Criminals Investigations (DCI) officers to investigate the deaths and apprehend the suspects.

“We have engaged our team of DCI officers to probe this matter. We also call on residents to co-operate with our security agencies in the investigations,” Mutiso said.

He said they are also probing to find if there is a connection between the first murder incident and the latest one.

“They are two bodies which were found in the same area on different dates. We are also investigating to find out if there is a nexus between the two incidents,” Mutiso.
