Two more cases of Mpox confirmed In Nakuru bringing tally to nine

The number of confirmed Mpox cases in Nakuru County has risen to nine after two more people tested positive within the last 24 hours.

According to an update from the  Nakuru County Public Health Emergency Operation Center, the new case involves a 37-year-old male truck driver who had recently traveled from Rwanda.

“The individual began experiencing symptoms on August 23, 2024, while in Mombasa.” The update states.

Cumulatively, Nakuru has reported nine cases and 49 contacts of the cases who have been traced. Another 37 contacts have followed up and were discharged.

As a result of the increased confirmed Mpox cases within the County, different teams have been constituted to raise a public awareness campaign.

According to the emergency center, the campaign began on December 3 to combat community transmission of the virus.

“We have begun continuous capacity building of healthcare workers on identification and management of Mpox cases Inspection of all guest houses, lodges and hotels Sensitization of stakeholders, truck drivers and the general public on Mpox disease, signs and symptoms and how to prevent it .” read part of the bulletin from the emergency center.
